Support & FAQ

Need help with NostalPic on iPhone or Apple TV? Email hello@nostalpic.app.

Isn't this just the Apple TV screensaver?

The screensaver shows what an algorithm picks from an album. NostalPic shows what your family deliberately sent to that room, in order, with attribution, minutes after they sent it.

Why not just AirPlay?

AirPlay needs you in the room, on the same network, holding the phone. NostalPic works from another time zone.

Do my parents need to do anything?

No. After a one-time setup, photos just appear. Hearting with the remote is optional.

Is this another social network?

No feed, no likes counter, no strangers, no ads. Invited family only, and photos never leave the family.

What does it cost?

One plan covers every TV you manage — yours, and the ones you set up for family. Sending is always free. If someone invited you to send photos, it's free for you. Forever. That's the point. Free for 30 days. Every feature, every frame.

What do senders need?

An iPhone with NostalPic installed. Once you're invited as a sender, you share a photo straight from the iOS share sheet in Messages or Photos, and it appears on the frame within minutes.

How does pairing an Apple TV work?

  • Open NostalPic on the Apple TV. It shows a short code.
  • Enter the code in the NostalPic iPhone app.
  • Pick an existing frame for that TV, or create a new one.

There's no sign-in on the TV and nothing for the person watching to do. This also works over a phone call: whoever is at the TV just reads you the code, and you finish the setup from your iPhone — wherever you are.

Getting started

  • Install NostalPic on your iPhone and on the Apple TV.
  • Sign in with Apple on your iPhone — no new password to create.
  • Pair the Apple TV using the code it shows (see above).
  • Add photos to your library and choose what each frame should show.
  • Invite family members as senders so they can fill the frame too.

Apple TV is not showing photos

  • Confirm the Apple TV is paired to a frame (it shows a code if it isn't).
  • Open the iPhone app and make sure that frame has photos in its queue.
  • Use the Apple TV refresh control to reload the queue.
  • Check that your Apple TV has an active internet connection.

How do I remove or reset a TV?

The iPhone app is the management surface: you can rename a frame, remove a TV, or change which photos are queued for it. Removing a TV preserves its frame and queue so another display can be paired later, and it does not delete photos from your NostalPic library. To unpair from the TV itself — for example, before giving it away — choose "Reset this TV" in the Apple TV app's settings. It goes back to showing a pairing code.
